Adventures to be had

In 2007, I spent a semester abroad at Kingston University in England. During Reading Week, which is a week long mid-semester break, a group of friends and I backpacked across Italy for about 8 or 9 days. It was amazing! More fun than I had ever had and truly inspirational and magnificent. We flew Ryanair out of Stansted Airport which was, in itself, its own adventure. I will be more than happy to go into detail at another time. That story deserves its own post. Rome was our first stop….

I knew we were going to Italy but it didn’t hit me until I got there that I would be seeing things I’d only studied or saw on TV.  Three years later and its still surreal. The trip was glorious. It is really easy and inexpensive to travel to other European countries from England. I was an undergrad with very shallow pockets- my funds weren’t unlimited. We stayed in hostels so breakfast was included in the daily rate, we ate at really good but really inexpensive restaurants, most of the things we did were free or didn’t break the bank and taking trains between cities was affordable too. That trip taught me how to live out of a backpack which has come in handy.
