I learned, in one of my Publishing classes, that Reddit asked the question a couple of months ago, “What is the best horror story you can come up with in 2 sentences?“
People came up with some awesome sentences. These are some serious gut twisters and I don’t get the willies easily. They gave me some great inspiration for my new horror story. Hope they inspire you.
“My daughter won’t stop crying and screaming in the middle of the night. I visit her grave and ask her to stop, but it doesn’t help” Skuppy
“I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, ‘Daddy, check for monsters under my bed.’ I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, ‘Daddy, there’s somebody on my bed.’ ” justAnotherMuffledVo
“After working a hard day, I came home to see my girlfriend cradling our child. I didn’t know which was more frightening, seeing my dead girlfriend and stillborn child, or knowing that someone broke into my apartment to place them there.” cobaltcollapse
“The last thing I saw was my alarm clock flashing 12:07 before she pushed her long rotting nails through my chest, her other hand muffling my screams. I sat bolt upright, relieved it was only a dream, but as I saw my alarm clock read 12:06, I heard my closet door creak open.” jmperson
“It sat on my shelf, with thoughtless porcelain eyes and the prettiest pink doll dress I could find. Why did she have to be born still?” Horseseverywhere
“I wake up and everything feels wrong; it’s too quiet outside. I look out the window and see everyone standing still, looking at my house.” golfmade
This actually a good marketing tool for writers. I’ve seen some authors tweet horror shorts. You can also turn your sentences into images and share them. I’m so used to writing horror stories, I can’t imagine doing it in one or two sentences or 140 characters. It’s good practice, though. I’ll have to try it.
